Politics with Purpose

Politics with Purpose
Since my entrance into the political arena I have  seen lots of things beginning with  competitions, campaigns, challenges, threats, prospects, opportunities, success, achievements, decline, comeback, and promotions. Politics is a field of service to the people of any given country, locality, ethnicity or nationality. Through Political Platforms we are given the opportunity or mandate to change and transform the environment we live in and the lives of the people in the environment.
All political systems in the world exist because of these two cardinal objectives. The roads, bridges, houses, schools, hospitals, libraries, universities, economic empowerment systems and schemes we implement in our political careers are all directed towards environmental and human development goals. This implies that politicians should be driven by purpose rather than pleasure. Although as politicians we are given the pleasure of service through the provision of executive care systems, facilities and benefits, our drive in politics  is steamed  from  purpose and not pleasure.
In my Political career I have worked tirelessly to see the transformation of the environment and lives of the people of Delta State. My joy is to see the environment and lives of the people I serve transform through various projects and programs. Today I have more political responsibilities but the purpose and drive of my political career still remain the same which is to transform the environment and lives of the people of Delta State and Nigeria through Progressive and purpose driven Politics.

Eight Years of Meritorious Service to Delta State

EIGHT YEARS OF MERITORIOUS SERVICE

Chief Tom Amioku first Political stint began in 1990. When he was appointed as a Local Government Councillor between 1990 – 1991 at Oreokpe, before then he had worked as a manager at the Delta Steel Company DSC.
Since the Rebirth of Democracy in Nigeria 16 years ago Chief Tom Amioku has worked closely with successive democratic administrations in Delta State and the Federal Government to move the Delta State forward.
In His eight years of meritorious service as a civil commissioner in Delta State from 1999 to 2007 Chief Tom Amioku served in several capacities with the administration of former Governor of Delta State Chief James Ibori.
First as a Special Duty Commissioner from1999 to 2001, where he pioneer changes in the ministry from recruitment of new personnels in the State fire service department to the development of new fire service stations and acquisition of new fire trucks and equipment for the Department of Fire service in Delta State. Through the commitment of his leadership the state fire service rose from a rustic department to an enviable service department that attracted young graduates to its ranks. The Department became a reliable service provider to the people of Delta State. In all three Senatorial districts there were fire stations and fire men on hand to deal with infernos thus several lives and property worth millions of naira were saved.
During his short stint at the department the Governor recognised the integrity and hard work of Chief Tom. He decided to work closely with Him. There is a popular saying that ‘’action speaks louder than voice’’. The Works of Honourable Tom Amioku at the Department of special duties open the doors for more opportunity to serve the Administration.
He was moved to the then newly created Ministry of Power and Energy from 2001 to 2003.  Sir Tom Amioku carried with his success genes to his new assignment were he lighted up several communities in delta state with electricity. Before the appointment of Chief Tom Amioku at the Ministry of Power and Energy, a lot of communities in Delta State wallowed in darkness without electricity making life more difficult for them; despite the fact that they lived in a modern  age they struggled with darkness  characterised by lack of electricity to power appliances, machines, tools and other things.
Chief Tom Amioku began a campaign of rural electrification projects that brought electricity to the forgotten communities in the Delta State. He also boosted urban electrification in cities through the transformer projects that saw provision of new electrical transformers to cut down the load shading in cities across Delta State. The good works of Chief Tom Amioku is credited to have brought decades old dreams of communities to past. Again the Administration took notice of the excellence and performance of Chief Tom Amioku and when the Governor returned   for a second term in office; he decided to hand Sir Tom Amioku one of the most powerful and highly coveted ministries in the state which is  the Ministry of Works.
In the words of the Governor;   he said I am sending you to restore order in that ministry. Such word of confidence and reliance can only vouched for the pedigree and integrity of a season Statesman and Politician.
At the Ministry of Works chief Tom Amioku brought hope to frustrated communities, contractors, Leaders and the entire people of Delta State by completing previously abandoned projects, and initiating new projects which include construction of roads, bridges, parks, infrastructures and many other projects in all senatorial districts of the State. He was also appointed by the governor as the chairman of the Delta State Tender Board.
They are many more testimonies of the achievements of Chief Tom Amioku but we going to pause here and take it up from here in subsequent publication on this site.
